Roberts Peteris Gudrups, 98, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 13, 2009, at his home.
He was born Aug.3, 1911, in Latvia, a son to the late Ernest and Latte Gudrups.
Mr. Gudrups had had resided in Sturgis for the past 51 years coming from Germany where he lived for 15 years. His early life was spent in Latvia.
He was married to Emilija P. Upmanis who preceded him in death.
In 1974, he retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis where all of his friends knew him as “Bob”. He had spent the last 50 years planting and caring for his flowers and trees at his “Paradise” on the three acres of his land.
He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Vija (Theo) Vredeveld, Wyoming, Mich.; son, Andy Gudrups of Sturgis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, all of Grand Rapids; sister, Amanda Gulbe of Latvia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lilija and Jacques Keeslar of Sturgis.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Roberts P. Gudrups will be held at his home at a later date in the spring of 2010.
