Albert Hill, 80

Albert H. Hill, age 80, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Jan. 21, 2010, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

He was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Bartlesville, Okla., a son to the late George and Pauline (Kramer) Hill.

Albert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in counter intelligence as station chief for the Pentagon’s Radio Relay Unit. He also received a Distinguished Service Award for his continued contributions to the U.S. Military Communications Projects beyond his service career.

He has been a resident of the Sturgis area the past 15 years, coming from Shipshewana, Ind., where he had resided most of his life.

On Nov. 26, 1952, he married Betty Pollock. She preceded him in death Jan. 31, 1986. On Oct. 18, 1986, he married Darlene Cowan.

He retired from G.T.E. which is now Verizon with accommodations and over 25 years of service where he worked in Communication as a Supervisor and Engineer. He also served in many churches in Sturgis until He, his wife Pastor Darlene Hill, and Pastor Dan Lego began Servant Ministries Church, which ministers to the needy people in the community providing the word of God, food, clothing, shelter, and soup kitchen.

Albert enjoyed listening to country gospel music especially Gaither Band music and videos.

Surviving are his wife, Pastor Darlene Hill of Sturgis; four daughters, Pamela Jean Hill of Barstow, Calif., Vicki Sue (Jacob) Jaramillo of Sturgis, Patti Jane (Daniel) Brockway of Three Rivers, and Heather Lorain (Derek) Farber of LaGrange, Ind.; two sons, Scottie Ray (Connie) Hill of Sturgis and Nathan Paul (Christine) Hill of Elkhart, Ind.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Scott Alan Lego and Dan R. Lego, both of White Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Samuel E. Hill.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 3- 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Hackman Family Funeral Home – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Albert Hill will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Clark, Officiating.

Graveside services will follow in Sturgis Memorial Gardens with full military rites conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post.
