Amos Schwartz, 90

Amos S. “Musik” Schwartz, 90, of Burr Oak, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at his home.

He was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Berne, Ind., a son of the late Samuel and Effie Mae (Eicher) Schwartz.

Musik had resided in the Burr Oak area most of his life. Before coming to Burr Oak, he had resided in Berne, Ind., and Pennsylvania.

On Feb. 8, 1942, he married Wilma Yoder in Centreville. She died Oct. 25, 1987.

Mr. Schwartz was a carpenter, mason and farmer.

He is survived by his children, Marlene (Don) Stauffer of Centreville, Robert Schwartz of Houston, Lee (Irma) Schwartz of Sturgis, Amos (Mary) Schwartz Jr. of LaGrange, Ind., Dorothy (Jerry) Yoder of Nottawa, Henry (Debra) Schwartz of Burr Oak and James Schwartz of Burr Oak; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Martin (Betty) Schwartz of Helmer, Ind., and John (Margaret) Schwartz of White Pigeon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Mary Louise Bontrager; an infant son, Emanual Schwartz; four sisters, Rebecca Wickey, Salome Brandenburger, Elizabeth Brandenburger and Frances S. Stauffer; and five brothers, Peter, Emanual, Samuel, William and Reuben Schwartz.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. today at the Double M building, 59321 Nottawa Road, Centreville (one mile north of Nottawa).

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Double M building. Bishop John Neuenshwander and Edward Schwartz will officiate. Burial will take place at the Old Order Amish Cemetery in Centreville.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is handling the arrangements.
