Anita F Henningsen, age 76, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday, February 7th, 2010 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born in Detroit on August 3, 1933, a daughter of George and Lydie (Garvaiti) Fotis. Anita graduated from Jonesville High School in 1951. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Hillsdale College and furthered her business education at Michigan State University.
In 1952 Anita married Lyle “Gus” Gustafson in Jonesville. He preceded her in death in December 1978. On June 20, 1981 she married Fred Henningsen in Sturgis.
Anita was a partner in the Re/Max Elite Group, where she worked as a Realtor. Previously she had been employed as a business teacher, and was a co-owner of the Marshall Uniform Store in Jackson. Anita was a member of the Michigan Association of Realtors, Michigan School Employees Association, St. Joseph County Grange Fair Association, and the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She enjoyed golf, bridge, and attending her grandchildren’s many athletic events.
Surviving Anita are her husband Fred Henningsen, Sturgis, sons Eric Gustafson, Austin, TX, Matt (Cindy) Henningsen, Sturgis, daughters Cheryl (John) Adams, Chantilly, VA, Laurie (Jon) Krum, Schoolcraft, sister Melinda Lambros, Canton, brothers John (BettY) Fotis, Whitmore Lake, Jim (Mary) Fotis, Walker, and grandchidlren Rachel, Christian & Cole Adams, Michael & Matthew Henningsen, Blake & Grant Krum. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Lyle “Gus” Gustafson. and sisters Phyllis Schubert and Marie Panagotides.
Relatives and friends will be received Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville. Religious services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastors Mike & Sally Wicks officiating. A private interment will take place at the Prairie River Cemtery in Centreville. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the church or the charity of your choice.
