Betty Jean Mattson, age 85, of Three Rivers, went to be with her Lord peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at the Bowman House. She was born on Oct. 7, 1924 in Wakefield, MI. the daughter of the late William and Muriel (Bradly) Wiedrich.
Betty graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1941. She married Henry Mattson on Aug. 23, 1952 who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburg with a B.S. degree in education and received her Masters from Michigan State University.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (Honorary Society for Women Teachers). A member of Three Rivers Womens Club, Three Rivers Health Auxiliary, Lion’s Club Citizen of the Year in 2000. She was also a member of the Daughters of the King and Trinity Episcopal Church.
Betty taught school for 35 years at the Three Rivers High School.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving brother, the Rt. Rev. William (Theresa) Wiedrich, of Grand Haven, MI.; nephews, Dr. Tom (Christine) Wiedrich, and his children, Jillian and Bradley of Wilmette, IL., and Dr. William Wiedrich, of Tampa, FL.; nephew, Steve (Karen) Mattson and his children, Kevin, Ryan, and Tricia, of Marquette, MI.; niece, Ann (Gus) Rydholm and their son Grant, of Marquette, MI.; niece, Lucille Cooper and nephew, Doug Howard of Detriot, MI.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at the Trinity Episcopal Church of Three Rivers, with Fr. David Lillvis officiating.
