James Lincoln Coombs, age 93, of Three Rivers, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 at his home. He was born in Three Rivers, MI. on Feb. 12, 1917 the son of Clarence and Bernice (York) Coombs.
Mr. Coombs has been a life long resident of this area. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant, where he was highly decorated, receiving a Purple Heart, The Distinguished Cross, and several other medals. Upon returning from service, James worked as a postal carrier for the Three Rivers post office, where he was also head of his union. He was also a Boy Scout leader for over 12 years.
Mr. Coombs was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, the late Louzell Coombs, who passed in 1989, and Bernadine Coombs.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughter, Dolly (Vern) Haning, of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Abby (John) Lehman, of Osceola, IN., Von (Colleen) Haning, of Three Rivers, Sarah (Jose’) Embil, and Patrick (Diane) Haning, both of Three Rivers; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Ernest (Angie) Coombs, of Benton Harbor; one sister, Helen Kindig, of Florida, and a special niece, Nora Allen.
A memorial celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witness 330 S. Douglas, Three Rivers, MI. with Elder John Fisher presiding.
