John Harold Dingwitz, age 86, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 3, 2010, at Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers, Mich.
He was born June 26, 1924, in Wayne County, Mich.
John had resided in Sturgis since 1967 coming from Hillsdale. His early life was spent in the Detroit area and for several years he lived on Drummond Island where he had worked in the logging industry.
On Nov. 3, 1961, he married Brenda Gemmill in Georgia.
Following many years of dedicated employment, he retired from the Dometic Corporation in LaGrange, Ind.
John was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, woodcarving and riding his bicycle.
John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Brenda; one son, Brian Dingwitz of Sturgis; one sister, Stella Laundry of Drummond Island; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and burial of the ashes will take place at Drummond Island at a later date.
