David William Jordan, age 79, of Sturgis, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 24, 2010, at his home.
He was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Sturgis, a son of the late Harold “Sam” and Roberta (Radley) Jordan.
David was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1948. He and Geri enjoyed 12 years of wintering in Leesburg, Fla.
He was first married to Phyllis Easterday. This marriage ended in a divorce. On Jan. 15, 1996, he married Geraldine Marek in Las Vegas.
David retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following more than 15 years of employment. He had also worked at Burkin Homes in White Pigeon and Sturgis Newport Business Forms, and always had construction jobs on the side.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War earning the rank of Corporal. David was a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW, Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion and the Eagle Lodge #1314. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working and for several years he and Geri were vendors at flea markets with their hardware items.
He is survived by his wife with whom he had been for more than 27 years, Geraldine; two daughters, Lisa Mains of Coldwater and Mary Jordan of Sturgis; a son, Michael (Lisa) Jordan of Rickreall, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Debra (Dawn) LaCross of New Hampshire; six grandchildren, Sheila (Mitch) Perrault, Craig Mains, Joshua Jordan, Aaron Jordan, Lexy Jordan and Haley Jordan; two great-grandchildren, Zane and Drew Perrault; 10 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Tandra) Jordan of Sturgis; a sister, Bertie Lou Nelson of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Steven Jordan; and two stepsons, Dennis LaCross and Darald LaCross.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of David W. Jordan will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. The Rev. James Bender of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis will officiate. Full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
