Don B. King, age 80, of Sherwood, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at his home, after an extended illness.
Don was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Fulton, New York, a son to the late Charles Fluett and Grace (Wilcox) King.
He had lived all of his life in Sherwood graduating from Colon High School. He then served in the U.S. Army.
On April 18, 1953, he married Phyllis Belonga in St. Ignace.
Don had worked as an electrician for the former Kirsch Company in Sturgis for over 35 years, he had also farmed.
Don was a member of the Colon American Legion Post #454, and enjoyed fishing and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Phyllis King of Sherwood; five children, Kathy (Richard) Shipe of Sturgis, Karen (John) Hess of Howe, Ind., Linda (Tom) Thoms of Tekonsha, Don (Tina) King Jr. of Constantine and Kristine (Michael) Schoiber of Sherwood; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene (Charles) Wagaman of Athens; two brothers, Allen F. (Carolyn) King of Centreville and Arlon F. (Sylvia) King of Pulaski, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, March 28, 2010, from 3-6 p.m.at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon.
A memorial service, celebrating the life of Don B. King will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating.
Private interment of cremains will take place at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
If desired the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Don to the Community Health Center of Branch County, Hospice program. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
