Kenneth Hitchcock, 69

Kenneth Bruce Hitchcock, age 69, of Three Rivers, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2010, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Oil Springs, Ky., on Feb. 26, 1941, a son of Raleigh “Hambone” and Imogene (Salyer) Hitchcock.

Bruce has been a resident of Three Rivers since the 1960s moving from Kalamazoo. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Clifton Engineering and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for 45 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. Kenneth was a member of the American Legion and also the Three Rivers Eagles. He made many friends during his time at Doc’s Tap Room and Sam’s Place.

He was preceded in death by brother, Jerry Hitchcock and step-sons, Jimmy and Mike Miller.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving family, son, Kenneth “Tiger” Hitchock of Three Rivers; two sisters, Joyce Thompson of Three Rivers and Janice Chiddister; four half-sisters, Denise (David) Miller, Doris, Lillian and Kelly; one half-brother, Mike Hitchcock; a stepson, Joe Mercer; grandchildren, Jackson Hitchcock, Hannah Orzol and James and Bruce Mercer; nephews Casey, Cody and Kyle Miller; and a niece, Joyce Hackenberg.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Pastor Kyle Foster officiating.

Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers, with Military Honors under the auspices of the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph County Animal Rescue Fund (A.R.F.). Envelopes available at the funeral home.
