Roberta Cowham, 89

Roberta A. Cowham, age 89, of Carlsbad, N.M., formerly of Marcellus, passed away Friday evening, Feb. 26, 2010 in the Lakeview Christian Nursing Home in Carlsbad.

She was born July 14, 1920 in Lawton, the daughter of Bert E. and Gertrude (Morford) Brody. On Feb. 7, 1947 in Kalamazoo she married Earl Eugene Cowham who preceded her in death on March 28, 1989.

She graduated from Lawton High School in 1937, Western Michigan College in 1942 with a Bachelors Degree in education and Western Michigan University in 1966 obtaining a Masters Degree. She taught school for 34 years including 27 years in the Three Rivers Schools. She formerly resided at Hemlock Lake near Marcellus and was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Paw Paw.

Surviving are one daughter, Betty S. Golladay of Carlsbad; two grandsons, Jeremy and Eric Golladay of Carlsbad; one sister, Ruth Brody of Lawton and one niece. Three sisters, Gail Stanton, Clara Jessup and Margaret Wingerter, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, in the Mater Funeral Home, Marcellus with Father Len Brinkmoeller officiating. Burial will follow in Marcellus Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Paw Paw.
