Ross Longernecker, 86

Roscoe R. “Ross” Longenecker, 86, of Three Rivers, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. He was born on Oct. 4, 1923 in Three Rivers to Roscoe and Mamie (Boyer) Longenecker and was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Three Rivers High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers serving in Europe. Roscoe was married to Joyce B. Bitner on June 21, 1942 in Three Rivers. He was owner and operator of Longenecker Distribution Company in Three Rivers and Schoolcraft for 33 years, retiring in 1982. He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. for 59 years, and enjoyed golf.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce B. Longenecker of Three Rivers; two daughters, Connie Collins and Lori (George) Black both of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Kim Collins, Jeff Collins, Chris Crump and Jason Black; four great-grandchildren, Destanee Collins, Steve Collins, Kelsey Collins and Amanda Crump; sister, Dorothy Lintemoot of Centreville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Marion Pappas.

There will be no visitation or funeral service; cremation has been conducted. Private burial of cremains will be in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers, at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers, who is handling the arrangements.
