Ruth Harris, 102

Ruth G. Harris, 102, of White Pigeon, died March 13, 2010, at her home following a sudden illness.

She was born May 9, 1907, in White Pigeon, the daughter of Elliot Wellington and Charity (Whitting) Beckwith. She lived in White Pigeon all of her life, but spent four years in Pittsburgh, Chicago and Detroit. She was a graduate of White Pigeon High School with the Class of 1927.

On Nov. 12, 1953, she married Dale W. Harris. He died Jan. 30, 1991.

She was last employed by Michigan Gas and Electric for eight years, retiring in 1955. She also worked at Atlands, Swinehart Butcher Shop, and the Dime Store and Roys, all in White Pigeon.

She was a member of the White Pigeon First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are one son, Robert S. (Helen) Pendleton of Sturgis; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth C. Gadson; a son, Edward A. Pendleton; and several brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends may call from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon where services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David McShane, of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.
