Frances Shutes, 87

Frances Margaret Shutes, age 87, of Three Rivers, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Heartland Health Care Center. She was born on March 10, 1923 in Mattawan, MI. the daughter of John and Luella (Britton) Butler.

Mrs. Shutes graduated from Three Rivers High School with the class of 1941. She later went on to be a secretary for the high school for over 24 years. She has been a long time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and served on the Alter Guild. Frances loved to work on ceramics, quilt, square dancing, and trips to Florida. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thurlo and Carl Butler; two sisters, Vivian Butler and Marion Corey.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Mr. Bernard R. Shutes, Sr. of Three Rivers, whom she married on Nov. 21, 1943; four children, Bernard R. “Skip”, Jr.(Kathleen) of Three Rivers, Margaret(Tim)O’Connell, of Portage, Mi, Sharon(Gary)Seals, of Hartselle, Al, and Gary Shutes of Three Rivers; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. One brother, John (Gloria) Butler, of Portage; four sisters, Loranne Jacobs, Kathryn Gasion, Hilda Jean Harmon, all of Three Rivers, and Rosemond Inman, of Augusta, MI. Several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Hohner Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Alan Stadelman officiating.

Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers, Mi.

Memorials may be donated to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Michigan Eye Bank, or Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
