Scott Shultz, 49

Scott W. Shultz, age 49, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, March 29, 2010, at his home.

He was born July 24, 1960, in Sturgis, a son of Cleon and Janet (Holtz) Shultz.

He was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1979.

He was a dedicated and loyal employee of Lakeland Paper Company in Sturgis for nearly 30 years.

Scott enjoyed mushroom hunting, cooking and watching movies. Scott truly loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Stacy Bontrager of Sturgis and Jennifer (Craig) Shoup of Galesburg; a brother-in-law, Alvin Bontrager of Sturgis; two nieces, Courtney (Kent) Schmucker and Alecia (Adam) Pieronski, both of Sturgis; three nephews, Adam Bontrager of Sturgis, and Jacob Shoup and Evan Shoup, both of Galesburg; three great-nieces, Cleoy Schmucker, Kryssalyn Schmucker and McKenzie Pieronski; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy Holtz, and Albert and Letha Shultz.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:45 p.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where a memorial service celebrating the life of Scott W. Shultz will begin at 7 p.m. The Rev. Deb Johnson of the First United Methodist Church of Sturgis will officiate.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the service. Private burial of the ashes will take place at a later date at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
