Anna Burnell Booko, age 86, of Three Rivers, has left this earth and went to heaven on Friday, April 30, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. When we said “there she goes” those in heaven said “here she comes.” “Absent from the body, present with the Lord.” “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Burnell was born on Jan. 12, 1924 in Wakefield, MI. the daughter of J. Elmer and Lillian (Thornstrom) Hanson.
Upon graduating from Wakefield High School in 9142, Burnell completed her nurse’s training in Chicago at the Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in 1945, where she met and eventually wed her husband, John on June 12, 1948. She worked at various hospitals and also as a visiting nurse. The couple raised their family first in Okemos, then Millington, before settling in Three Rivers in 1963.
Once in Three Rivers, Burnell and John formed the Three Rivers Christian Fellowship (now Riverside Church) together. She was very active in the T.R. Women’s Club, D.A.R. of Wakefield., MI., and the T.R. Planning Commission. Burnell’s passion for music lead her to play organ and piano for the Okemos Baptist, Millington Baptist, and Three Rivers Christian Fellowship. She also played for both Hohner and Halverson Funeral Homes for many years.
Burnell was a devout Christian, whom loved the Lord, her husband John, and her family, of which she was extremely active, with children, grandchildren, and Riverside Church.
