Lucille Speese, 84, of Three Rivers, joined her husband in Heaven on Monday, May 11, 2010.
Lucille was born Lucille Michielsen on Feb. 9, 1926 to Mary Michielsen and Charles Rumsey. Following the death of her mother, she was raised by her maternal grandparents Alphonse and Josephine Michielsen. Her grandfather, an immigrant from Belgium, was a railroad worker and her grandmother, an immigrant from France, was a dressmaker.
Lucille married Billy D. Speese and together they raised two adopted and 22 foster children in Three Rivers. Lucille was a dedicated, giving and loving mother who continued to support her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout their lives and until her own passing. She was someone on whom they could always depend for an encouraging word and loving support.
In addition to being a mother and homemaker Lucille was passionate about learning, cooking, science/astronomy and the arts. She operated her own upholstery business until a few years before her passing and she was an avid hobbyist and collector. Lucille was also a dedicated servant of the Three Rivers community. She was not only an active member of her local church and choir where she sang and played the organ, but also a volunteer for Aging and Independent Services.
Her commitment to family, passion about life-long learning, and service to others marks a life well-lived. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Lucille is preceded in death by her husband Billy.
She is survived by her three children, Dawn and Susan of Three Rivers, and Richard of Seward, Alaska; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; dearest friends Bert and Sharon; many other friends and extended family.
The date and time for a celebration of Lucille’s life will be determined.
