Helen Barkman, 78, of Colon, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Helen was born Nov. 23, 1931, in Ashland, Ky.
Helen had lived at her present residence in Colon for the past 30 years, coming from Detroit.
She married James E. Barkman in Colon.
She retired from Sturgis Molding and had also worked at the M&M Grill in Colon.
She is survived by her husband, James, of Colon; children Robert Bailey of Colon, Larry Bailey of Dearborn and Nancy (Leonard) Jones of Tennessee; four stepchildren, Sandra, James Jr., Frank and Richard; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister.
She was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Bailey.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Helen Barkman will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
