Billy E. Hicks, age 77, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Garrett, Ky., a son of the late Adam and Clara (Combs) Hicks.
On Dec. 15, 1956, he married Alma Morrison in Cynthiana, Ky.
Billy had been a resident of Sturgis since August 1965, moving here from Kentucky. He retired from the Kirsch Company in 1998 after 17 years of employment.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War and earning the rank of corporal. He enjoyed antiques, sales, attending auctions, and scratching lottery tickets.
Surviving are his wife: Alma; a son, Douglas G. Hicks and Cathy Barnes of Sturgis; two daughters, Sheryl King of Burr Oak and Connie (Jim) Clements of Bronson; three grandchildren, Ryan Hicks, Reesa Johnson and Serena Lipscomb; two stepgrandchildren, Jimmy Clements and Patty Clements; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Denver (Julie) Hicks of Everett, Wash., Thomas (Martha) Hicks of LaGrange, Ky., and Herbert Hicks of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles, Orville, Hansel and Cletis, and a sister, Ruth Rowe.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Billy E. Hicks will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will follow in Burr Oak Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be directed to the American Cancer Society.
