Bev Snyder, 88

Beverly Jane “Bev” Snyder, age 88 of Mendon, died Monday Aug. 23, 2010 at her daughter’s home near Vicksburg. She was born in Kalamazoo on May 10, 1922 the daughter of Carl and Lela (Salt) Given. Following the death of her parents, Bev was raised by her three aunts and was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School at the age of 16. She worked briefly at Kelloggs in Battle Creek where she met her future husband, Willard. Bev and Bill Snyder were married on April 2, 1942 in Battle Creek. They resided briefly in Fulton before moving to Mendon in 1946. Together they operated a farm west of Mendon while she also worked for the Mendon Company and the Mendon Public Library. Bev enjoyed crocheting and cross-stitching; reading books and solving crossword puzzles. She enjoyed watching sports; was a U of M fan; and played tennis well into her ‘80s.

Bev is survived by three children and their spouses, Mary & Chuck Shearer of Vicksburg, Dexter & Charlotte Snyder of Mendon, and John & Ginger Snyder of Kalamazoo;

7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (with 1 on the way); and by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Bill in 1998.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, and for 1 hour prior to services on Thursday. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Clint Zehr, Pastor of the New Covenant Christian Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be directed to Hospice of Southwest Michigan, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
