Kathleen Kay (Kelly) Russell, 58, of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away Aug. 10, 2010, in Key West, Fla., after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
Kathy was born April 8, 1952 in Three Rivers, Mich., the daughter of Colon and Marie (Ruple) Kelly. Kathy graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1970. She went on to Glen Oaks Community College and graduated with honors.
Kathy lived in Sturgis, Mich., for several years. She move to Luther, Mich., in 1996 to care for her mother. After her mother’s death in 1998, the Florida weather beckoned. Kathy moved to Florida and was united in marriage to Robert Russell. They were divorced, but remained close companions.
Kathy enjoyed reading, spending time with family and friends and traveling. She was able to enjoy a cruise with her daughter and grandson in July.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Heather Derry of Auburndale, Fla.; grandson, Wesley Smith of Auburndale, Fla.; companion, Robert Russell and his daughter, Tammy, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister, Nancy (Donald) Roberts of Three Rivers; brothers, Michael Kelly of Luther and John (Charlene) Kelly of Door, Mich.; nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be held t 5 p.m. Saturday in Largo, Fla. at the New Harvest Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Wahneta Elementary School, 205 4th St., Wahneta, Fla. 33880 for the school library fund.
