Betty Perry, 78

Betty J. Perry, 78, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

She was born Jan. 24, 1932, in Howe, Ind., a daughter of the late John R. and Nola J. (Perry) Lovelace.

Betty had resided in Sturgis since 1939 coming from Howe. On Oct. 16, 1962, she married Bruce Perry in LaGrange, Ind. He died Sept. 4, 1994.

Betty for many years did babysitting in her home and she was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her son, Lewis (Karen) Perry of Sturgis; four grandsons, Ryan Matthew Perry, Kevin Joseph Perry, Michael Ian Perry and Nathan Lee Perry; two sisters, Callie Hills of Florida and Ruth Gibson of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Martha Jane Perry; one sister, Carrie Sysbesma; and five brothers, Roy, Dick, Thomas, John and Robert Lovelace.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where a memorial service celebrating the life of Betty Perry will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Glenn Russell, Chaplin of Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal of the ashes will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, Ind.
