Curtis H. Dowd, age 72 of Three Rivers, died Wednesday Sep. 29, 2010 at his home following a two month illness. He was born in Pinconning, MI on Aug. 22, 1938 the son of Justus and Aleta (Curtis) Dowd, and later graduated from Arenack Eastern High School in Twining. Curtis worked in area factories before establishing Bay Disposal Company of Pinconning and Standish. He moved to Three Rivers fifteen years ago and was employed at Vulcan Industries in Sturgis. Most recently, Curtis was a driver for the Saint Joseph County Commission on Aging, and was recognized for ten years of outstanding service. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, landscaping and gardening, and woodworking.
Curtis was married to Alma Davies on Oct. 28, 1957 in Elkhart, IN. She survives along with three children, Rick (Sharon) Dowd of Mattawa, Ontario, Donna (Les) Heeringa of Three Rivers, and Cheryl (Scott) Beadle of Hermiston, OR; nine grandchildren, Nathan and Kristen Dowd, Bryan (Heather) Forester, Cara and Lee Heeringa, Ashley (Adam) Fitts, Hannah and Emily Heeringa, and Steven Beadle; one great-grandchild on the way, Toby Curtis; three sisters, Pearl Moody of Columbus, IN, Lois (Bob) Lavery of Clovedale, IN, and Lynn (Marlin) Bromley of Walkerville, MI; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a grandson, Joel.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 2, 2010 at the Three Rivers Bible Church with Pastor Jay Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
