David D. Rowe, 73, of Colon, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2010, at Fairview Living Centre in Centreville.
He was born May 22, 1937, in Sturgis, a son of the late Ellis and Blanche (Wilson) Rowe.
He had resided in Colon since 2000. His early life was spent in Brighton, Ind., and he had lived in Sturgis for many years.
On May 4, 1974, he married Viola Mae Inman in Indiana. She died Dec. 20, 2009.
David retired from Ross Laboratories in Sturgis following 37 years of dedicated employment. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Dave’s Lawn Care in Colon for many years and worked at L.M. Gray Engine Repair in Colon and Vogt’s Floral in Sturgis.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and repairing automobiles.
David is survived by a son, Roland (Lori) Rowe of Sturgis; a daughter, Kimberly (Mark) Larimer of Branch; a stepdaughter, Sheila (Jay) Wilkins of Cummings, Ga.; a stepson, Marvin (Sue) Smith of Sturgis; eight grandchildren, Jeremy (Tera) Rowe, Alexis (Carl) Flowers, Andrea Rowe, Jake Rowe, Josh (Angela) Larimer, Merriah (Steve) Moore, Ashley (Darren) McKnight and Abi Larimer; two sisters, Betty Peters and Phyllis Rowe, both of Sturgis; a brother, Russell Rowe of Sturgis; a brother in-law, Larry Lee of Centreville; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alvin and Nancy Inman of Sturgis
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Bonnie Lee; and a nephew, Chris Lee.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of David D. Rowe will be held at noon Saturday at Colon United Methodist Church, 224 N. Blackstone Ave., Colon. The Rev. Donald Graham will officiate. Cremation will follow the service, and private burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
