Donald A. Hardy, 78, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 18, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital.
He was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Mishawaka, Ind., a son of the late Claude and Minnie (Berger) Hardy.
As a young man, Don served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Korean Conflict and graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry.
Dr. Hardy enjoyed many years providing vision services to his patients in the Sturgis area and Grand Junction, Colo. During his years in Sturgis he was an active member of the Sturgis Lions Club. During his later years in Grand Junction he loved spending times with his horses and participating in Civil War Reenactment rides.
He is survived by one son, Thomas (Laurie) Hardy of Midland; one daughter, Carolyn “Carrie” (Steven) Zigler of Niceville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Colin Hardy of Jacksonville, Fla., Evan Hardy of New York City, NY, Ali Hardy of Grand Rapids, Dana Zigler and Kacey Zigler, both of Sarasota Fla.; one sister, Doris McCrory of Elkhart, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Max Eldon Hardy and Robert Hardy.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date.
