John Cupp, 40

John Kenneth Cupp, age 40, of Mendon, died early Saturday Sep. 11, 2010 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident in Colon Township. He was born in Sturgis, MI on June 24, 1970 the son of Kenneth and Janice (Weaver) Cupp and was a lifetime resident of Mendon. He was a 1989 graduate of Mendon High School and had engaged in general farming. He also worked for the Kalamazoo and Jones MDOT stations during the winter months plowing snow. John was a member of the Three Rivers American Legion and the Elks Lodge. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which he named Electra, and was a member of the Heritage Trail Hog Chapter of Sturgis. He also enjoyed deer hunting, and had recently begun restoring antique tractors.

John was married to Melissa Westendorf on July 15, 1995 in Mendon. She survives along with his step-son, Cody Westendorf of Sturgis; his parents, Kenneth Cupp (Deb) of Mendon and Jan Hoffmaster (Bruce) of Three Rivers; brother, Jeff Cupp (Andria) of Mendon; sisters, Angie Cupp (Justin Weinberg) of Mendon and Becky Jackson (Jason) of Sherwood; step-brothers, Jared Hoffmaster (Beth) of Three Rivers and Eric Hoffmaster (Jen) of Frostproof, FL; grandparents, Ruth Williams of Three Rivers, Alice Weaver of Kalamazoo, and David & Kathy Green of Jones; mother and father in law, Dixie & Bob Jackson of Fulton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday Sep. 16, 2010 at the Crossroads Missionary Church, just west of Mendon, followed by burial in Laird Cemetery. Memorials will be directed to the Heritage Trail Hog Chapter to be used for children’s charities. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
