June Arlene Weitting, age 88, formerly of Leonidas, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, Fla.
June was born June 1, 1922, in Leonidas, a daughter to the late Arnold and Gertrude (Bennett) Weitting.
She had made her home in Leonidas from 1922 to 1944, then in Wheaton, Ill., till 1980, then in Boca Raton, Fla., until 1993, moving to Fort Myers where she resided until her death.
June graduated from Colon High School with the Class of 1940. She then attended Western Michigan University and graduated in 1944 with a bachelor’s degree in arts. She then attended Wheaton College and received a master’s degree in Christian science, while working as a Latin instructor at Wheaton College and Wheaton Christian School. In 1964, she was the reference librarian at Wheaton College. Then in 1966, she received her master’s degree in library science from Western Michigan University.
In October 1974, she was named director of library at Wheaton College, and was employed in that position until her retirement in October 1980.
June was a member of the Factoryville Bible Church in Factoryville, Mich.
She is survived by a brother, Dale (Marjy) Weitting of Kalamazoo; nephew, Douglas (Karen) Weitting of Whitmore Lake, Mich.; niece, Marcia (Richard) Tangwall of South Range, Wis.; six great nieces and nephews and eight great-great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Factoryville Bible Church in Factoryville. Funeral services celebrating the life of June A. Weitting will then take place at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Fred Goebert officiating.
Burial will follow in Leonidas Cemetery. The family was assisted by the Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
