Bill Pontius, 85

Lawrence “Bill” G. Pontius, 85, of Sturgis, was returned to his maker’s arms Sept. 30, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital in the company of his family.

He is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Stephen) Klujsza of Granger, Ind., Crystal Pontius of Sturgis and Carmen Pontius of Sturgis; and a son, DeWayne Pontius of Coldwater. His youngest daughter, Shawn Williams, preceeded him in death in 2008.

After serving in World War II, he married Wanda Hopkins on Oct. 7, 1955. She preceeded him in death on July 12, 2005.

He retired from Style Line Corp. as production manager, transferring from North Manchester, Ind.

Lawrence is survived by 10 grandchildren, Amber, Bret, Daniel, Alisha, Christopher, Cody, Matthew, Andrew, Shasta and Corey; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul and Russell; and his cat, Tommy.

His parents, along with six siblings, preceeded him in death.

One of his favorite passions in life was fishing, waiting for the big one.

At his request, the family will celebrate his life with a private service, along with Hackman Family Funeral Home, on Monday.
