RONALD CARL STIELAU age 88 of Centreville, Michigan passed away early
Thursday morning October 7, 2010 at the home of his son and
daughter-in-law, Paul and Vicky Stielau in Sturgis.
He was born April 16, 1922 in Essen, Germany a son of the late Paul and
Magdalena (Best) Stielau. He came to the United States at the age of 14
months. Mr. Stielau grew up in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from
Foreman High School. He also attended DePaul University.
He was proud to have served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a
radar operator aboard a LST in the Pacific during WWII.
On May 22, 1948 he married Ruth Marie Engel in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Stielau was a meat cutter by trade and he had owned and operated his
own meat market while residing in Chicago.
Moving to Sturgis in 1950 he worked for David’s Dairy in Sturgis for 14
years. He later accepted a position with Ross Laboratories in Sturgis
where he was employed for 17 years retiring in 1982.
For 38 years he lived on a farm in Burr Oak Township with his family
where he enjoyed raising livestock. He also enjoyed fishing, working
with leaded glass and following the Detroit Tigers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth, three sons, Glenn
(Vivienne) Stielau of Holland, Paul (Vicky) Stielau of Sturgis and Mark
(Tari) Stielau of Douglas, one daughter, Nancy (Lawrence) Jackson of
Hudson, Florida, ten grandchildren, Heath Stielau, Jennifer (her fiancée
David Lester) Stielau, Elizabeth Stielau, Lance (Amanda) Stielau,
Kimberlee Stielau, Adam Stielau, Erick (Carrie) Weed and Brittany Weed,
two step-granddaughters, four great grandchildren, Gage Stielau, Madison
Stielau, Hannah Stielau and Jason Weed, sister-in-law, Ella Adler of
Chicago, Illinois and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda, his parents, Paul
and Augusta Stielau and John and Magdalena Schuh, his in-laws, Ernst and
Maria Engel and a son-in-law, Dale Weed.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday
and 1:00-1:45 P.M. Monday at the *Hackman Family Funeral Homes –
Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284*
where funeral services celebrating the life of Ronald C. Stielau will
begin at 2:00 P.M. Monday. The Rev. Barry Edds will officiate. A
graveside committal will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in
Burr Oak where full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J.
Kelley Post 31355 VFW and the U.S. Coast Guard Honor Guard.
