Dorothy Upp, age 66, of Colon, went peacefully, to be with her heavenly father, Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at her home after an extended illness.
Dorothy was born Jan. 3, 1944, in Sturgis, a daughter to the late Alton M. and Margaret A. (Snow) Barton.
Dorothy lived all her life in Colon, graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1962.
On April 14, 1962, Dorothy married Jerry Upp in Sherwood.
Dorothy was a homemaker, she had also been a foster mother and had babysat many area children through the years.
Dorothy was a member of the Colon Baptist Church and for the past 2 years had attended the Fish Lake Bible Church. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved her flowers.
She is survived by her husband Jerry Upp of Colon; three sons, John (Sharon) Upp of Clayton, Mich., Daniel M. Upp of Ionia, Mich., and Patrick (Debbie) Upp of Heathrow, Fla.; nine grandchildren, one she raised as a daughter, Elizabeth Upp; sister, Joann Duncan and brother Leroy Barton both of Orlando, Fla.; mother-in-law Ruth Upp of Sherwood and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends today, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy Upp will be Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Colon Baptist Church with Pastor Robert N. Baxter and Pastor Tim Brondyke officiating. Burial will follow at Matteson Township Cemetery.
If desired the family suggest memorials be made in memory of Dorothy to the Community Health Center Hospice of Coldwater or the Fish Lake Bible Church building fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
