Jerry Overweg, 57

Jerry Lee Overweg, age 57 of Vicksburg, died Wednesday Nov. 3, 2010 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born in Zeeland, MI on Jan. 13, 1953 the son of Elmer and Stella (Steigenhuis) Overweg. He attended school in Zeeland and later graduated from Holland Christian High School with the Class of 1971. His first marriage ended in divorce. Jerry was a lifetime farmer, and also worked at Fox River, formerly Simpson-Lee Paper Company in Vicksburg until its closing, and later for Byholt Excavating. He was a member of the MMPA, and enjoyed tractor and truck pulling.

Jerry was married to Cindi Noel on May 19, 1990 in Vicksburg. She survives along with 3 children, Chad (Jackie) Overweg, Shannon (Mike) Boyd, and Tricia Overweg all of Vicksburg; 3 brothers, Norm (Pam) Overweg, Vern (Deb) Overweg, and Doug (Angel) Overweg all of Vicksburg; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Also by Cindi’s parents, Harold & Pat Noel; 2 brothers in law, Lee (Missy) Noel and Randi (Debbi) Noel all of Vicksburg; his dog and constant companion, Roxi; and grand-dog, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been conducted. A memorial gathering remembering the life of Jerry Overweg will be held Saturday Nov. 13, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Justin Weinberg’s barn, 50282 28th Street, Mendon, MI 49072. Memorials will be directed to the family to be used for the Jerry Overweg Agricultural Scholarship Fund at Vicksburg Community Schools. An online registry is available at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
