JOANN NEWMAN, 81, of Colon, Michigan passed away early Saturday
morning November 6, 2010 at the Fairview Living Centre in Centreville,
Michigan.
She was born March 9, 1929 in Minnesota a daughter of the late John and
Bertha (Lindquist) Shobe.
JoAnn had resided in Colon for the past two years coming from
Burnsville, Minnesota.
On August 30, 1947 she married Albert Newman in Los Angeles, California.
He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Newman was a dedicated wife and mother. After raising her children
she enjoyed her job at the Demeggars Bakery in Arlington Heights,
Illinois for 10 years. She was a talented artist especially enjoying
working with watercolors and her beautiful flower garden will be forever
missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, Mark (Pat) Newman of Tampa, Florida, Jay
(Barb) Newman of Sturgis and Bert Newman of Evans, Georgia, four
grandchildren, Matthew (Jocelyn) Newman of Kalamazoo, Captain Peter
(Carissa) Newman stationed in Battle Creek with the Michigan National
Guard, Kari (Andrew) Hatt of Three Rivers and Danielle Newman of
Greenville, South Carolina, three great grandchildren, Tessa Hatt, Zoe
Newman and Parker Newman, one brother, Jack (LaDonna) Shobe of
Bloomington, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one great grandson,
Jackson Hatt, one daughter, Alison Newman, one sister, Joyce Keene and
one brother, Jim Shobe.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday
at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa
St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331*. Funeral services celebrating the
life of JoAnn Newman will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 13,
2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Deb
Johnson will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at
Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
