Justin Shafer, 37

Justin Lee Shafer, 37, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away suddenly on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. He was born in Kalamazoo on Oct. 5, 1973 the son of Jay Harrison Shafer and Debra Lee Johnson.

Justin graduated from Three Rivers High School with the class of 1991. He was active in football and track and field and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved to assemble dune buggies. He coached his sons’ Little League Baseball teams. Justin was very personable and a great friend, but had a special place for his sons, nieces and nephews, who all loved and adored him.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Christopher Shafer; his mother-in-law, Christine Harshberger.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving family, wife, Heather (Harshberger), whom he married on Sept. 11, 1993 in Three Rivers, their two sons, Zachary and Jacob Shafer, all of Overland Park, Kan.; mother, Debra Johnson of Battle Creek; grandfather, Harry Johnson of Battle Creek; father-in-law, Calvin (Ann) Harshberger of Three Rivers; brothers-in-law, Brian and Jamie Harshberger and Todd and Jill Harshberger; seven nieces and nephews, Grant, Garrett and Joseph Harshberger, and Megan, Christopher, Dillon and Joshua Shafer.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 at the Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers, MI 49093.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 at the Moorepark Community Church, with Pastor Ken Miller officiating.

Interment will be held in Peek Cemetery, Constantine Township.

Memorials may be donated to Justin’s sons, c/o Heather Shafer. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
