Ruth R. Lewis, age 100, of Centreville, passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 a the Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Centreville. She was born in Cook County, IL on December 14, 1909, the only child of Walter A. and Velma D. (Dunnington) Hall Ruth grew up on a farm near Centreville and graduated from Centreville High School in 1928. On March 15, 1929 she married LeRoy W. Lewis in LaGrange, IN. They had three children, Robert, Barbara and Carol. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1990.
Ruth was a life long member of the Centreville United Methodist Church, the Join Us Class, WSCS (UMW), and church choir. She also taught Sunday School class in her younger years. Ruth worked as a seamstress at Dr. Denton Sleeping Garment Mill in Centreville for 23 years, retiring in 1967.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, she and her husband LeRoy spent six weeks in Europe in 1970. They also spent winters in Florida and Texas. In her free time she made afghans and was an avid reader.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, step mother Florence Hall, husband, son Robert Lewis, granddaughter Pamela (Lewis) Crouch, great grandson Samuel Wetherbee, great great grandson Thomas Lewin, son-in-laws Gerald Wetherbee and Harold Conine, and daughter-in-law Yuvon Lewis.
Surviving Ruth are her daughters Barbara (Wetherbee) Kelley, Carol Conine both of Centreville, 10 grandchildren Kenneth (Suzanne) Lewis, Spring Lake, Susan Lewis, Gallaway, OH, Valerie (Ron)Birkhold, Huntington, IN, Michael (Jan) Wetherbee, Centreville, Patricia Prowett, Harrison, Ark, Sandra (Tom) Kline, Three Rivers, Patrick (Beth) Kelley, Centreville, Terry & Ronald Conine, Athens, Linda Collyer, Tekonsha, 24 great grandchildren, 24 great great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 4 step great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Centreville United Methodist Church, with Dr. Reverend Karin Orr officiating. A private family interment of ashes will be held at a later date at Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville. Memorial contributions may be made to Centreville United Methodist Church 305 E.
