Albert Eckert, age 94, of Ann Arbor, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at home.
He was born in 1916 in Sturgis, Mich., a son to the late Frank and Martha (Peuschel) Eckert.
On Nov. 11, 1945, in Sturgis, he married Jean Mast.
Albert was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving during World War II from 1941 – 1946 and earning the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Albert had moved to Ypsilanti after returning from World War II and had worked as an accountant and later owned and operated Eckert Realty for over 20 years. He moved back to Sturgis in 1980 after retiring, and to Ann Arbor n 2005.
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Jack Johnston Chapter #88 in Sturgis and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis, MI.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; son, Owen (Judy) Eckert; two daughters, Carol (John) Schultz and Virginia (Robert) Combs; five grandchildren, Sandra Lehman, Edward Eckert, Vicki Juback, Deborah LaMay, and Jennifer McFadden; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Martha Kaas and Brunhilde Schmidt; two brothers, Carl Eckert and Rev. Gerhart Eckert.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 9- 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1108 E. Lafayette St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
Funeral Services celebrating the life of Albert Eckert will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with The Rev. Paul Stern, officiating.
Interment will take place in Oak Lawn Cemetery and the family suggest memorial donations be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Home – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091 who is in charge of the arrangements.
