Dena Upp, 62

Dena Kay Upp, age 62, of Grand Haven, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Heart Wood Hospice in Spring Lake.

Dena was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Coldwater, a daughter of Darrel L. and Ruth M. (Smith) Upp.

Dena grew up on her family farm in rural Sherwood, moving to Grand Haven in 1971.

She had worked for 15 years at Harbor Industries in Grand Haven, until her illness. She had attended the Salvation Army in Grand Haven and First Baptist Church in Spring Lake

She enjoyed crafts and loved time spent with her grandchildren.

Dena is survived by three daughters, Kimberly (Michael) Wells of Norton Shores, and Katrina Evans and Wendy Evans, both of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Thomas, Nicholas and Noah; her mother, Ruth M. Upp of Sherwood; two sisters, Doris (Leroy) Porter of Colon and Janet Rounds of Sherwood; three brothers, Ronald L. Upp of Sherwood, Jerry D. Upp and Jack L. Upp, both of Colon; and several nieces and nephews.

Dena was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Dinsmoor; and her father, Darrel L. Upp.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Dena K. Upp will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Philip Palmer of the Burlington Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.

If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Dena to the Hospice of North Ottawa. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The family will also receive relatives and friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Spring Lake, with a short service to follow.
