John D. Krieg, age 91, of Sturgis, went to be with his Lord early Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital.
He was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Huntington, Ind., a son of the late Fred P. and Rena Ada (Andrews) Krieg.
John retired from General Motors in 1979, after working for 31 years and four months as a foreman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, earning the rank of Technician 5th Grade and in combat with the 236th Signal Service Battalion.
John had lived most of his life in Anderson, Ind., and had moved to the Sturgis area in the early 1990s.
On Nov. 20, 1995, he married Gertrude Moore.
He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors, attending church, reading his bible, and spending time with granddaughters Jessica Baldridge and Cassie Baldridge and great-granddaughter Emily Howard.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; son, John L. Krieg of Anderson, Ind.; three grandchildren; five step-children, Mary (Harold) Baldridge of Burr Oak, , Lora (Tom) Householder of Ocala, Fla., David (Melissa) Tuttle of Kenai, Alaska, Denzil (Karen) Tuttle of Indianapolis, and Mark Tuttle of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; 10 step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Joan Krieg of Anderson, Ind., and Marlene Krieg of Hudsonville, Ind., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vera and Olive; six brothers, Francis, Harold, Red, Bob, Carol, and Albert; one step-granddaughter, Jessica Baldridge.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-6 p.m. Friday, at the Hackman Family Funeral Home Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
Funeral Services celebrating the life of John D. Krieg will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the First Baptist Church, 28090 Fawn River Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, with the Rev. James Bender, officiating.
Interment and graveside services will follow in Burr Oak Cemetery with full military honors being conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355 of Sturgis.
