Madge Parker, age 93, of Three Rivers, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2010, at the Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1916, in Branch County, Mich., the daughter of Alexander C. and Kate Rhea (Nelson) McCrary.
Madge graduated from Bronson High School in 1934. On Oct. 10, 1936, she married George A. Parker in South Bend, Ind. She was employed by the Hazen Lumber Company in Three Rivers from 1934 to 1936. In 1937, Madge and George moved to Centreville where George managed the Hazen Lumber Company and Madge assisted him for another two years. Then, while George was in service from 1943-1945, Madge managed the lumber yard on his behalf. They moved to Three Rivers in 1967.
Mrs. Parker was active in church, civic, and school organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers-Centreville and belonged to both the Eloise Club and the Friendship Circle. She was also a member of the Three Rivers Health Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.).
Madge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; and an infant son, Michael Kent.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Dennis (Judy) Parker, of Three Rivers; one grandson, Brian (Carmen) Parker and great-grandchildren, Todd, Michael, Selena, and Jasmine, also of Three Rivers; one sister, Ruth (Leon) Cutler, of Portage, Mich.; one niece Joetta (David) Cherry, of Sturgis, Mich; two grandnieces, Chata Cherry of Kalamazoo, and Tobi Cherry, of Sturgis, Mich.
A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Parker’s life will take place at the First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, with Rev. Brenda Deily officiating.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, the St. Joseph County Animal Rescue Fund (A.R.F.) or the charity of one’s choice.
