Rita Combs-Logue, age 83, of Klinger Lake passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind.
She was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Freeport, N.Y., a daughter of the late John F. and Ann Marie (Laine) Coleman.
Rita was a graduate of State University of New York at Albany with a bachelor of arts in education, and had taught eighth-grade English for a short time.
On Dec. 17, 1949, she married Theodore R. Combs in Freeport, N.Y. He preceded her in death in 1985. In 1993, she married John I. Logue in Sturgis. He also preceded her in death.
She had been a resident of Sturgis since 1956 and had lived for five years in Grand Rapids. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and often enjoyed attending at St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon. She was a member of the Sturgis Hospital Guild, Sturgis Garden Club, Ave Maria Alter Society, and Klinger Lake Country Club, and was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are four children, Susan (John) Dampeer of South Bend, Ind., Elizabeth (D. Craig) Martin of Richland, Ann Laine-Combs of St. Davids, Pa., and Theodore R. Combs Jr. of St. Charles, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 16 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; an infant grandson, John Dampeer; a sister, Virginia Needham-Curtis; and a brother, John Coleman.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Home, Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, where a Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass celebrating Rita’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 404 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, with the Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz, celebrant.
Graveside services and interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations in Rita’s memory be directed to the Theodore R. Combs Memorial Scholarship, c/o: Sturgis Foundation, 310 N. Franks Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091; or Holy Angels Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
