Juanita “Shorty” June (nee: Hays) Abel, 85, of Three Rivers, passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Three Rivers Health Respite Suites. She was born in Sturgis on Dec. 24, 1924 the daughter of Edgar and Jessie (Quick) Hays.
Mrs. Abel has been a life long resident of this area. She performed tap dance for the troops at Fort Custer during WWII and was a Golden Member of the Three Rivers Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Juanita loved reading, traveling, crosswords, and most of all loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her loving companion of many years, Jack Reed; and her beloved “grandog,” Greta.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving family, one son, Harold “Skip” (Debra) Abel, two daughters, Billie (Glenn) Chambliss and Angela (Joseph Panozzo, fiancé) Abel, all of Three Rivers; special family, Amy (George) Solt of Constantine; grandchildren, Meri Laverty, Adam Abel, Cassidee Fuller, and Jennifer (Jeremy) Moon, and George and Heidi Solt; great-grandchildren, Asia Fuller, Colton and Caydence Moon.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Pastor Kyle Foster officiating.
