Cornelius Gipson, Jr. was born on July 22, 1939 to Essie and Cornelius Gipson in Ebenezer, Miss. He was the eldest of two children. Cornelius was a member of Westside Christian Parish Church at a young age. He was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 18 and served in Korea. Cornelius was honorably discharged at the age of 22 in 1961. On Dec. 23, 1972 he became husband as well as father when he married Delores Iverson and received Jeanette as his daughter. Cornelius worked for the United States Post Office as a diesel mechanic and was also a small business owner as proprietor and head mechanic of C&G Garage. He was preceded in death by his mother, Essie Gipson, and father, Cornelius Gipson. Cornelius departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at Three Rivers Health. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Delores; daughter, Jeanette (LaDanny) Cage; brother, Eddie Gipson; granddaughter, Mya Cage and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and a brother and sister in-law. Funeral services will be held at 12 o’clock p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14 at the Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church, 411 Fourth Ave, Three Rivers, with Pastor Pamela Williams officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. — noon at the church. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the family, c/o Delores Gipson.
