Dorothy Major, age 91, of Centreville, passed away Sunday January 23, 2011 at the Matthew 7:7 in White Pigeon. Dorothy was born in Vicksburg, MI on December 13, 1919, the daughter of Earl and Cora (Crouch) Skidmore. She graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1938. On May 29, 1940 she married John Major in Vicksburg. He preceded her in death Jan. 30, 1994. Dorothy was employed at Beals 5/10 Store in Centreville and St. Joseph County Co-op Extension office for 22 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers-Centreville, the Eloise Club , an afternoon ladies club, a Euchre Club and the Farm Bureau. Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and made many items out of plastic canvas.
She is survived by daughter Sherry (Gene) Frohriep of Centreville, son Gary (Linda) Major of Sturgis, grandchildren Eric (Allison) Frohriep, Portland, Krista (Rod) Dibert, Union City, Paula Ducas, Portage, Shauna (Justin) Knight, Kalamazoo, Tom Major, Traverse City, Nicole Rowe, Portage and Christina Rowe, Angola, great grandchildren Kenyon, Brendon, Tycen, Tanis, Roman, Carley, Lauren, Cameron, Ridgely, Zachery, Harrison, Eben and Hanna, and sisters in law Claribelle Jonker of Three Rivers and Maxine Skidmore of Vicksburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers Clifford, Harley, Donald, and Milo (Mike).
Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville where Religious Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday. Pastor Jon Deily will officiate. Interment will be at the Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Matthew 7:7 or Sturgis Home Health Care.
