JoAnn Proctor, age 62, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away unexpectedly Friday morning January 28, 2011 at her home.
She was born May 3, 1948 in Sturgis, Michigan a daughter of Harold and Kathleen (Darby) Newman.
JoAnn had resided most of her life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1966. She continued her education at Glen Oaks Community College where she received an Associate Degree.
On July 5, 1975 she married Michael Proctor in Sturgis.
JoAnn retired from the Sturgis Public Schools following 33 years of dedicated employment.
She was a member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion Auxiliary and she enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, E-Bay, arranging flowers and flower gardening and the many trips she and Mike took to Las Vegas. What JoAnn truly treasured was time she spent with her granddaughter Savannah.
She is survived by her loving husband Michael, one son, Scot (Shannan) Jones of Sturgis, Granddaughter, Savannah Jones, Mother, Kathleen Newman of Sturgis, one sister, Sandy (Tom) Richmond of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of JoAnn Proctor will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
