John E. Boocher, 85, of Burr Oak, and formerly of Orland, Ind., and Bronson, died Jan. 8, 2011, in Burr Oak.
He was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Bremen, Ind., a son of Elmer and Helen (Starrett) Boocher. They preceded him in death.
On Sept. 23, 1993, he married Bernice E. Tweddly. She survives.
He retired in 1989, and was a steel cutter for Burr Oak Tool and Gauge in Sturgis. Also, he previously worked for Bronson Reel Company for 20 years.
He attended Orland Schools. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Orland American Legion Post #423. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, especially pinochle and euchre, playing pool, and traveling.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice Boocher of Burr Oak; a son, Ronald and Diane Boocher of Sturgis; five stepchildren, Connie and Dave Crawford of Copemish, Dan and Therese Strang of Interlochen, Penny Strang of Traverse City, Robert and Collen Strang of Kingsley and Lisa Strang of Hastings; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Boocher of Orland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Sandra Kay Boocher, Mary Ann Taylor and Barbara Jean Boocher; a brother, Lewis Boocher; a sister, Sabre Mary Young; and two stepchildren, Rick Strang and Glen “Dut” Strang.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Ind. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor George Cleverly officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland. Military committal services will be conducted by members of Orland American Legion Post #423.
