Lois Jean Allen, age 80 of Mendon, died Thursday Jan. 13, 2011 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo where she had been a patient for two days. She was born in Parkville on Feb. 22, 1930 the daughter of August and Hazel (Baker) Conrad and was a lifetime resident of the Mendon area. Lois graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1947. She was married to James William “Bill” Allen in Indiana on Dec. 11, 1948. Lois worked briefly at the Haas Corporation in Mendon and later as a cook at Mendon Schools. She especially enjoyed spending time with, and cooking for her family. She was an oil painter and Bingo player, and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Lois is survived by her husband, Bill; 2 sons and daughters in law, Jeff & Linda Allen and Greg & Cheryl Allen all of Mendon; 6 grandchildren, Crissy (Gus) Alexander and their son Caden and a child on the way; Trisha (AJ) Tate and their children Audra and Tessa; Tent (Lisa) Allen and their daughters Aaron and Hayle; Travis (Devon) Allen and their children Lincoln, Presley, and Rowan; Shawn (Barney) Allen; and Rayce Fuller. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by 4 brothers, Estol, Robert, Galen, and Dale Conrad.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 18, 2011 at the funeral home with Nancy Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery.
