Nancy Annabelle (Pridgeon) Thoms, age 70, went home to be with her Lord at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011. She had been fighting a long battle with breast cancer.
Nancy was born Nov. 24, 1940, in Sturgis, a daughter of Ernest and Josephine (Roberts) Pridgeon.
On July 3, 1981, she married Fred M. Thoms in Sturgis. They were married for 30 happy years. He was the best thing that ever happened to her.
When her husband retired, Nancy was able to fulfill one of her dreams of traveling. They traveled coast to coast for nine years, stopping when Nancy developed breast cancer.
Nancy ran day care out of her home for five years and enjoyed knitting, cross stitch and genealogy. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was always helping her neighbors by driving them to doctor appointments or to the store. She loved to help others.
Surviving are her husband, Fred; three daughters: JoDel (Lynn) Hendricks, Jennie Williams and Elizabeth (Greg) Tschannen; two sons, Steve Williams and Randy Williams; two stepdaughters, Janice Wasikowski and Terri Sumpter; two stepsons, Fred (Sue) Thoms Jr. and David (Brenda) Thoms; three sisters, Sylvia Couch, Abbigale (Tony) Scarpella, and Mary (Paul) Zeeb; three brothers, Robert Pridgeon, Paul Pridgeon and Robin Pridgeon; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Peggy Sue Williams; a son-in-law, Lynn Howard Hendricks; a brother, Dr. James Pridgeon D.D.S.; and a stepson, Allen Thoms.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
The family suggests memorial donations be directed to Hospice of Sturgis, P.O. Box 126, Sturgis, MI 49091. Envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Home – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, which is in charge of the arrangements.
