Eleanor Ross, 74

Eleanor Sue Ross, age 74, of Mendon, died late Thursday at Tendercare Portage where she had been a patient for 5 days. She was born in St. Ignace, MI on July 24, 1936 the daughter of Cornelius and Elsie (Davis) Visscher. She moved with her family to Vicksburg as young girl and later graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1955. Eleanor was married to Robert Ross on July 9, 1955 in Vicksburg, and they have resided in Mendon since 1964. Eleanor worked at Doris & Lee’s in Vicksburg and at Federal Mogul in Mendon. She also sold Home Interiors and did cake decorating from her home. She enjoyed the outdoors and bird watching, and was a former 4-H Leader. She was a former member of the Sturgis Wesleyan Church and a current member of the Light & Life Wesleyan Church in Three Rivers.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Robert; 5 children and their spouses, Elise (Jeff) Caporossi of Portage, Leland (Colleen) Ross of Burr Oak, Vernon (Veronica) Ross of Bronson, Todd (Cindy) Ross of Mendon, and Carmon (Jay Watts) Pueschel of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Rosemary Beatris Carmichael; and by 2 brothers, Col. Robert Visscher and James Visscher.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday Feb. 7, 2011 at the Light & Life Wesleyan Church in Three Rivers, followed by burial in Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville.
