Fitzmaurice Coghlin Jr. died Wednesday, January 26th, 2011. He was born in Worcester MA on February 12, 1920, the son of Fitzmaurice Coghlin Sr. and Etta Wood. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1938 and studied metallurgy at the University of Texas.
Fitz moved to Three Rivers MI in 1953 and became president and owner of Dock Foundry Company. He served as the director of the Foundryman’s Association of Michigan and International Director and District Vice President of the American Foundry Society. He was active in a number of civic affairs, serving as president of the Three Rivers Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Board of Education. Fitz served as charter director of the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce and board member of the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District.
He made Saugatuck MI his permanent home in 1985 and was well known for his philanthropy, including the donation of Coghlin Park. He is survived by his wife Thelma Seager Coghlin; four children, John, Jacalyn, Elizabeth, and Douglas; three grandchildren; Jeffrey, Stephanie, and Ian; and a brother, Edgar.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society Olde School House Center, or the Three Rivers Carnegie Center Council for the Arts.
