Gertrude Agnes Hackenberg, 92, of Three Rivers, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at Three Rivers Health. She was born March 29, 1918 in Bristol, Ind., the daughter of Henry and Stella (Fisher) Detwiler.
Gertrude graduated from Bristol High School, Bristol, Ind., in 1937. On Oct. 11, 1947 she was married to Walter Allen Hackenberg at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio, by Rev. Herman Mees Meyer. She and Walter were long time residents of Moorepark. Walter preceded her in death on July 26, 1969. Gertude was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, embroidery, oil painting, pastels, and collecting stamps. She was an avid gardener, loved raising African violets and enjoyed creating many hybrid varieties.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Billy Detwiler; one grandchild, Andrew Hackenberg.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Joseph (Victoria) Hackenberg of Three Rivers; two daughters, Janet (Marc) Hassett of Vicksburg and Jane (Lawrence) Headley of Marcellus; eight grandchildren, Jessica Hackenberg, Julia Hackenberg, Daniel (Jenna) Bell, Elizabeth Bell, Christine Bell, Jonathan Moyer, Jennifer Headley, and Michelle Headley; three great-grandchildren, Jack Bell, Savannah Headley and Abigail Headley; one brother, Ernest Detwiler, of Elkhart, Ind.; two sisters, Ruth Boyer of Union and Betty (Lloyd) Zimmerle, of Elkhart, Ind.; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Maria Rutland officiating.
Interment will follow in Moorepark Cemetery. Memorials may be donated to the Three Rivers Health Hospice, envelopes available at the funeral home.
