Jane Haas, 91

Jane Haas, age 91, of Mendon, died Saturday Feb. 19, 2011 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Mendon on May 9, 1919 the daughter of Carl and Florence (White) Heiney and was a lifetime resident of Mendon. She graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1938. Jane was married to Terrence “Ted” Haas in St. Edward Catholic Church on Sep. 7, 1940.

Jane was a Member of the St. Edward Altar Society and the former St. Edward Church Study Group. She was an active community volunteer and participated in the Mendon Kiwanis Showboat both onstage and behind the scenes. She was a Cub Scout leader and member of the P.T.A., and coordinated the March of Dimes campaign in Mendon. She was a member of the Mendon Bridge Club and enjoyed card playing with family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting. She and her husband were members of the Mendon Rovers Camping Club, the Avion Travel Club, and enjoyed travels across the country.

Jane is survived by 7 children and their spouses, Pat (Kathleen) Haas of Mendon, Michael (Molly) Haas of Fitzwilliam, NH, Mary Jane (John) Millard of Caledonia, Terrence Jr. (Marguerite) Haas of Portland, OR, Dennis (Sally) Haas of New London, NH, Susan (Jack) Spenner of Portage, and Betsy (Scott) Mitchell of Findley, OH; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Joan Brundige of Mendon. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Frances Truckenmiller in 1987; a grandson, James Haas; a daughter, Ann Marie Haas in 2002; and her husband, Ted Haas in 2004.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, and where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The family will also receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where prayers before mass will begin at 10:40 a.m. The funeral mass for Jane Haas will be 11 a.m. Thursday Feb. 24, 2011 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. Jim Vinh Le officiating. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery. Memorial may be directed to either the Borgess V.N.A. & Hospice, or the St. Joseph County United Way.
